The Mihai Eminescu Trust and the Town Hall of Sighişoara launched in May 2010 a mass-media campaign aimed at raising awareness and building ownership within the local community regarding the Breite Ancient Oak Tree Reserve.
The campaign is based on 4 key messages: I do not destroy oaks, I do not leave litter behind, I do not harm animals and I do not drive on the plateau. These are placed under the umbrella-concept Breite belongs to me too, which reinforces the traditional connection between the community of Sighişoara and the plateau, and points out that each one of us is responsible for protecting it.
The campaign was deployed over a period of 6 months. In order to reach all categories of public, it was communicated through a variety of channels at local and regional level: radio spots, newspaper ads, street billboards, posters in bus stations, posters in schools, local institutions, tourist information points, and ads and posters on profile websites etc.
The launching of the campaign was accompanied by the Oak Festival organized in May 29th in the Breite Reserve. This was a cultural and ecological event that reinforced the messages of the mass-media campaign, promoting awareness and responsibility towards the environment.
